Vanderbilt concludes strong day three of SEC Championships

AUBURN, Ala. — The Vanderbilt women’s swim team concluded day three of the SEC Championships with one personal record and 12 season-best times Thursday at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.

“The culture of day three was great,” Vanderbilt assistant coach Chelsea Bailey said. The girls have been very energetic, very positive and very supportive. I love seeing them getting ready to compete, they’re so hype going to the pool.”

Commodores opened day three with two student-athletes racing in the 400-yard individual medley. Both freshman Alix Roy and junior Lara Hernandez raced season-best times touching in at 4:25.56 and 4:30.21, respectively.

In the 100 fly, six Commodores notched season-best times with freshman Kristen Nutter leading the Dores at 55.58 followed by juniors Kaley Buchanan at 56.23 and Lauren Bergmann at 56.48. Senior Paige Hamilton touched in at 56.52, freshman Alina Jones at 56.66 and fellow freshman Allison Bauer closing the race for the Commodores at 56.69.

Sophomore Tonner DeBeer claimed the Dores’ top time, touching the wall at 54.58.

Vanderbilt closed the preliminaries with five student-athletes competing in the 200 free. Sophomore Krislyn Porter led the Dores at 1:52.61 to mark a personal best in the event.

“Racing a personal best today was very exciting alongside a lot of my teammates,” Porter said. “I can’t wait to see everyone go more best times the rest of the meet.”

Seniors Nemo Sanchez and Sophie Halper closed out the race by racing season-bests with Sanchez touching the wall at 1:52.85 and Halper touching in at 1:55.19.

Commodores will return to action to race in the preliminaries of the 200 fly, 100 back and 100 breast beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
