Honors For Harbison Again

Guard named SEC Player of the Week for second time this season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Following a record-setting performance on Sunday afternoon, Vanderbilt’s Ciaja Harbison has been selected the SEC women’s basketball Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday.

The graduate transfer was recognized after tying a school record with a career-best 41 points while leading the Commodores to their first league win of the season over Texas A&M. In equaling a mark first set over 20 years ago she connected on a career-high 14 field goals, shooting 73.7 percent from the field, and was also 11 of 13 at the free-throw line. The guard recorded 10 of Vandy’s final 13 points, assisting on the other basket—a Belle LaChance 3-pointer—during that stretch after the Aggies cut the deficit to eight to seal the victory.

It was the most points scored by an individual in the SEC this season as Harbison is the only player in the league currently ranked in the top five in scoring, assists and steals.

Harbison was first honored by the conference after the opening week of the season, sharing the player-of-the-week award on Nov. 15. She was also named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week for the second time in 2022-23 on Tuesday for her efforts.
